Why charging again?

I am asked to migrate my account to a new site, fine. But the migration process includes paying for my annual subscription (180) which I just did 3 months ago. What is going on ?

I also were asked to do this, happy to switch, but I do not want to pay annually…
I am happy with my monthly subscription… also wondered why they just can’t transfer my current subscription…

I also don’t like that the email is coming from a very strange sender…

Looks unsafe to me…

@joosty the reason you’re being asked to update your account is because we have switched to a new payment platform. It helps us out if people all switch over to the new platform, but it is not required, which is why we are giving a free gift as a thank you.

It does mean that you would be charged for another year right now. You have two options:

  1. Renew your subscription now. This would mean you’d be charged the yearly fee again, but our system takes into account the number of months and days left from your last payment and adds them to this billing period. This makes sure you get credit for what you’ve already paid towards the subscription. We know this is not ideal, but you’d get a free PDF book as a gift for your investment!

  2. Keep your subscription as is and do not update your subscription to our new billing system. You’ll be billed again a year from the date of your last payment. You won’t lose access to your account, don’t worry :]

Please let me know if you have any more questions, and thank you so much for bearing with us as we switch to a new platform!

@dhurgan Sorry to make you worry with that strange email address! But this is a legitimate offer from our site.

You do not need to subscribe for a year. You can continue with a monthly subscription by selecting the monthly option from the drop down menu when you update your account details.

Unfortunately we are not able to transfer the subscriptions ourselves to our new billing system which is why we are asking customers to update their payment details and offering a free book as a gift for switching to our new system.

If you don’t want to switch you can stay on the old system and you’ll still be able to access the videos like before, but it helps us out to have people switch to the new system so that’s why we sent out the email asking people to switch.

Let me know if you have any other questions/concerns! :]

Hi, could you explain 2 a bit more clearly. I’m not sure what you mean. Maybe a clear example might be helpful. For instance, user x has 8 months left on a 1 year subscription. What happens if x moves over to the new system and signs up again for 1 year. What happens in terms of money paid out and months of service?

@onceunpopularideas Sure! Here is an example for someone who already pays for a yearly subscription.

Stay on old system: If you last paid four months ago (Let’s say December 14, 2016) for a year, then you have eight months left and if you do nothing then your next re-bill date will be December 14th 2017 through our old billing system. This will keep you at your same rate and requires nothing be done by you to continue.

Move to new system: If you renew your subscription now for a yearly subscription, you will be charged the $179.88 (plus any applicable VAT) yearly rate now. The remaining days/months you have on your subscription will be credited and you’ll be re-billed in one year plus the remaining days. So in this example you’d be re-billed on Dec 14th 2018. We also give you a free PDF book for switching over to our new payment platform which you’ll get immediately.

Another reason you may want to consider switching is that we have dropped our yearly price to $179.88 (plus any applicable VAT). For some people, they may have signed up back when our yearly rate was higher and they will continued to be billed on our old system at that higher rate. Switching to our new system will give you the option to pay the lower yearly rate that we now offer. Some people are already subscribed at this lower rate, but for anyone paying the higher rate, this is a chance to update your account to the new low yearly rate that we are now offering.

I hope that helps to clarify things. Please let me know if you have any more questions. :]

Hi @csweigart, Thanks for your clarification. I use PayPal. Do I need to cancel the old subscription from within PayPal please? Thanks Jim

Hi Jim,

Nope, you’re all set! When you migrate to our new payment platform, the subscription automatically cancels the subscription in our old payment platform.

I checked your account to verify this has happened and I do see your prior subscription is set as cancelled. You’ll continue your subscription now under our new payment platform using whatever payment method you provided when you switched over.
