Unsure what to do with the Parse shutdown? Check out our top 5 Parse alternatives - with pros and cons for each!
Hey Great Piece.
You touch on it in your article, but this VentureBeat article gives a good summary of the main product. For us, we were lucky, we moved from Parse a few years ago. Cant claim any clever insight though. We (thats Waracle are a mobile app dev company, we migrated all our apps to Kumulos back then. Not saying its right for everyone, but as a company that builds apps for enterprise clients it works for us.
Very good article, thank you for all the options.
Would you happen to know an Amazon Mobile Hub tutorial?
I’ve been reading the docs for AWS Cognito, but they are not intuitive at all compared to Parse or Firebase (Firebase is way too expensive, so not an option).
Thank you.
Thank you! I don’t know of any great Mobile Hub tutorials. Yeah, Amazon’s documentation is not nearly as straightforward as that of Parse or Firebase. Maybe I’ll write some AWS Mobile Hub tutorials soon!
Great overview kmanglani, what do you think about Backendless as alternative to Parse?
Thanks! It seems like a pretty solid option. One thing that we mention in the article, is taking into account how long the service will be around. Many of these options don’t seem like they are going anywhere, which definitely went into consideration–plus they are well tested and scalable.
I’d recommend giving Backendless a try and see if it fits your needs, but do keep in mind that one day you may need to migrate off the platform.
Hi kmanglani, what do you think about the Parse hosting services like back4app? Aren’t they the closest alternative to Parse and best way to avoid additional effort on migrating ?
Hi Kmanglani, did you try Catapush notifications? They feature a reliable feedback service for push notifications that was not possible using Parse. Thanks!
Hi KManglani. This list is really good and helpful for all the Parse users who are suffering from the Parse shutdown incident.
When I came to know about Parse Shutdown. I disturbed a lot and many others as well who have hosted their apps on Parse platform, they are looking for an alternate solution. I am also one of them.
I have already talked with various app development platform providers and check their platforms. Firebase was one of them. But there is a problem with this platform, you need to write whole API and it will take lots of time.
The another one that I got was Configure.IT. I found it as the nice solution compared to other platforms. Actually my 10 to 15 apps are on Parse. So I am bit worried about it. Now After checking all the solutions, Finally I reached to a decision.
I also want to guide all the people who are passing through the same situation as I am passing. I have checked all the features and facilities provided by this platform and also talked with the authorized persons of this platform. Really a genuine one.
Migrating to Configure.IT has lot of benefits for Parse Users as Configure.IT provides Wizard base Transfer process so you just need to click the button and change base URL to shift and enjoy the CIT forever without any headache!
How Configure.IT beats Parse?

@kmanglani : good article, would be nice if u could also update it from time to time. The Parse server is available and can even be used on an own server, issue is that it doesn’t seem to be updated so often - see activity/PRs on github.
Also firebase seems to be supporting Push out of the box, in this or the next update. Price for firebase is not that low, but if google is 100% behind it - and they seem to be (also they have vested interest in this) - then it’s probably one of the best alternatives for Parse.
@stefy_biber : u working for Configure.IT?
I mean configure.IT is also an option, but PHP (5?!) +MySQL is just a little… meh. CodeIgniter also doesn’t help that much, and the prices in the end are not that attractive compared to the AWS/own Parse server/firebase.
Did you get a chance to write a tutorial about how to use AWS? Working with it is real pain in the ass. I’m having a real hard for mere user login. And you are right that its documentation is not as straight forward as Parse or Firebase.

Although I’m definitely still novice status as a coder, I believe it is not possible at this time to integrate AWS SDKs for iOS with the latest versions of Xcode and iOS. I tried night and day for over a week to get a working Xcode project that integrated AWSCore, AWSCognito, AWSDynamoDB, AWSS3, and AWSMobileHubHelper SDKs along with FBSDKLoginKit and FBSDKCoreKit. I could make the necessary adjustments to dismiss a multitude of errors until I got a Mach-O clang error that I tried everything that I could find on the internet to fix. It didn’t work. I’ve read multiple places that AWS SDKs for iOS don’t work on recent versions of Xcode and iOS. If it is possible, it seems only the most advanced coders could get a running Xcode project that’s not an outdated iOS 8 legacy version from which to build an app. AWS has had ample time to try and fix this, and does not seem to prioritize doing so. Unless you’re an extremely adept programmer or want to build in app that’s stuck in iOS 8, I recommend staying away from AWS. It’s a shame because they seem great if working with them was possible…
Great article Kmanglani, much needed summary. Any idea if Mobile Hub offers a realtime database?I am working on a chat based app and though Firebase seems great, I am working on an app where scalability is significant so I am torn between selecting Firebase for its realtime database and Mobile Hub for its great scalability/pricing.
This tutorial is more than six months old so questions are no longer supported at the moment for it. We will update it as soon as possible. Thank you! :]
