Hi All, managed to get my first app into the store after a few months of learning swift by working thought the iOS Apprentice and Core Data books as well as a few of the video tutorials on this site.
I am not from a programming background, dabbled a bit in VB and VBA macros a few years back which I used to develop estimation templates for my employers in a construction company at the time, but have always been interested in programming and when I discovered Swift a few months back I decided to give building iOS apps a go.
Servetrac MC is an app to track and schedule motorcycle services, my great passion in live is motorcycles so it was only natural that I wanted to build my first app around something I know very well. Have a look at my website www.oneguyapps.com to see more details of what the app is about.
Thanks to the raywenderlich.com team for all the great information on this site that enabled me to get started in iOS development!
Congratulations on a very nice app (I see it’s a Universal app too!). It’s a great feeling when something you’ve sweated over for months gets accepted into the store
For me, one of the most daunting parts of the whole process was doing everything correctly for the submission process - distribution profiles, certificates, correctly sized artwork, etc.! I thought there would be a nice checklist on the Apple dev site that would guide you simply and clearly through the whole process, but there doesn’t seem to be. I know there’s a lot of documentation, but it’s all a bit fragmented - I wanted a step-by-step guide so I didn’t miss something vital. I’m sure it’s all very obvious when you’ve done it a few times, but not the first time
So, mostly for my own benefit, I decided to summarise the process and write it up as a blog post for my web site (rarcher.net). It might just help some other newbie like me!
Edit: My summary of the app store submission process is available here http://rarcher.net/Post/PostContent/50

Thank you Russell. Yes it was a real daunting task getting all the certificates and stuff and getting it uploaded to the App Store eventually. I was really nervous about the review since you read so many stories of rejection online, but I guess I got lucky and the app was approved about 2 hours after review started! Thanks for the list, I have bookmarked your site since I am sure I would have forgotten half the stuff by the time it comes to uploading app #2!
Retreev looks very good too, did you have much success with it yet? The next struggle I have now is getting noticed on the App Store, with over a million apps it is a real task! Just over 400 views in 12 days, hoping to get that up eventually!
Take care,
Wicus
Wow, you got through the review process really rapidly! Mine was pretty quick too (just under 2 days).
I’ve not really had any success yet with my first app Retreev. I’ve only had a handful of reviews. Certainly, nothing like the 400 in 12 days that you have! My app’s only been in the store about a week, and I’m still getting my head around what I should do about marketing - that stuff doesn’t come naturally to me!
Also, although it has a definite usefulness, I developed the app without expecting to make any real money from it. I just wanted to develop something reasonably decent as a first attempt at an iOS app, and then move onto more complex projects from there
Good luck with the app - looks to me like you’ve got off to a great start!
