From what I have learned, Pet Finder is no longer providing API keys.
The “Get An API Key” button Petfinder’s Free API for Developers | Petfinder is a 404. From the random data I can find, it appears they stopped giving out API keys a month ago, and it’s intentional. api key - 403 error when requesting Petfinder API Key - Stack Overflow

Hi @jfisk. I’ll try and contact them, though if they indeed stopped supporting the API there’s isn’t much we can do 
And unfortunately, we’re no longer updating the books. Right now, we’re focusing on creating the new multi module content. The books are being integrated into that, so you’ll be able to see this content updated there.
You can, however, use mock APIs or other services to simulate their API and follow the book for now.

@jfisk @heathence I got a response from their support team. Unfortunately, indeed they are no longer providing API keys and they have no timeline on when they’ll be providing keys again.
And since we’re no longer updating the books, there isn’t much we can do here. However, the content of the book is still valid and you can still find the material on GitHub and follow along if you mock the responses.
Also, the content and subjects of the book is going to be integrated into the new learning paths so you’ll also be able to find this content there.
