I can't drag library objects into Content View preview!

Mac Mini. M1 Chip. Ventura 13.1
xCode 14.2

I’m beginning the lessons but I cannot drag Library objects (or are they views? ex. Text, Button) onto the Canvas preview. It just won’t highlight any elements when I drag it over the canvas.

So frustrated! Why won’t this thing work!

Update: On furhter investigation, I can’t even click individual views on the preview canvas. It just automatically selects the entire phone screen. What’s going on?
