Chapter 2: Importing primitive.obj into Blender fails

When I try to import the cone into Blender (freshly downloaded 2.79b). I get an “IndexError: list index out of range” message, and the import fails.

Any idea what’s wrong?

@jbrewer - Hi and welcome to the forums!

Did you change the Ks specular value in primitive.mtl as described on page 48? The Playground exporter does not export the cone in the format that Blender expects.

Did you edit the .mtl specular Ks value?

That was indeed the problem. I skimmed over the obj section, not realizing I had to make a change to the material file.

Thanks!

I’m glad you got it sorted. It’s annoying that the obj export doesn’t match Blender’s requirements!

I hope you enjoy the rest of the book.
